Development of Lincoln County's Geographic Information System (GIS) began in 2002 to provide spatial integration to county records for easier accessibility. The Geographic Information System uses computer technology to correlate a physical location   or area with other information or county records. This information can then be accessed either on a map or by computer viewer to give a better understanding of its makeup and relationships. Our GIS includes many layers of data including: parcels, addresses, roads, land use, and flood plains, together with boundaries of municipalities, aerial photography and topography. School districts, fire districts, voting precincts and legislative districts are also able to be utilized together in the GIS. The GIS involves operations which can combine these spatial datasets to display relationships and provide information in the form of dynamic maps, reports and internet interfaces. GIS technology provides a valuable tool to assist in implementing the comprehensive plan, administer the zoning ordinance and floodplain regulations, integrate land records and assist emergency personnel.
