Tea Tributary Flood Mitigation Project
|
On behalf of the residents living in Giebink, Blue Spruce, New Earth, Dagget, and Sunrise Additions affecteded by periodic flooding along the Tea Tributary, The Lincoln County Commissioners have submitted a flood mitigation project grant application to the state of South Dakota in hopes to be awarded 75% of the costs needed to fund the submiited project that relieves flooding impacts in the project area through FEMAs Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). The submitted application was approved by the state hazard mitigation team in August of 2011. Applications must first be approved at the state level in order to be forwarded to FEMA for their review. We submitted two project grant applications to the state. Only one of the two projects could be forwarded to FEMA for final review and decision. We submitted the Spring Creek Trib project at that time. The Tea Tributary project would be submitted for a future funding period. The Tea Tributary application was recently updated and re-submitted for the April 2012 grant cycle. We updated project costs and hydrologic certification to re-submit the application for the May 13, 2011 (DR-1984) HMGP funding available. It is expected that the project will be forwarded to FEMA for engineer and environmental review. This can take up to one year.
Details of matching funds acquisition and project / district formation are being developed in anticipation of a potential grant being awarded. |
