Spring Creek Tributary Flood Mitigation Project

On behalf of the residents living in Elmen Acres, Hanson's, Johnson's, Thornton's, Mystic Ridge and Twin Creek Additions affected by periodic flooding along the Spring Creek Tributary and Spring Creek,

The Lincoln County Commissioners submitted a flood  mitigation project grant application to the state of South Dakota last August in hopes to be awarded 75% of the costs needed to fund the submitted project that relieves flooding impacts within the project area through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. 

The project is presently being reviewed by FEMA. A positive response is anticipated sometime this Summer. Details concerning funding and supportive funding costs are progressing. A Coordinated Drainage Area Ordinance was adopted February 28th  in order to be in a position to accept grant funds. The ordinance establishes the administration,creation, boundaries and financing for the project.

The first of several public meetings was held Tuesday April 10 at 7:00 PM in the Commission room at the County Courthouse in Canton to discuss the method of determining special assessments within the Coordinated Drainage Area. We will continue to develop the funding details and variables for our next meeting.
